As you are aware, we had our Annual Skal Workshop on the 3rd April and our Action Plan was then circulated to all Members. One of the main topics covered
was that of Skal Mauritius participation within the National Project of “Maurice Ile Durable” and the Environmental related issues.

We have had several working sessions with the responsible parties for the MID Project, and we have committed ourselves on various Green Initiatives.
Another aspect of this topic is the organization of regular Clean & Green activities, in conjunction with the students of the Hotel School.
We had scheduled the Cleaning and Replanting of Ile au Phare with endemic plants on the 16th May, but regretfully we have had to postpone same, due to
very bad weather conditions. This session has been rescheduled for the beginning of Summer ! Ce n’est que partie remise… It is worth to note that La
Vanille had sponsored Skal Mauritius with the provision of the endemic plants from La Vallee de l’Est for this planting session at Ile au Phare.
Last year, Skal Mauritius had sponsored La Vanille Reserve des Mascareignes for their project of Francois Leguat in Rodrigues Island, with the re
introduction of giant tortoises, and the rehabilitation of the endemic flora, as well as their spectacular caves, to compete for the Skal International
Eco Tourism Award. This project was the runner up from the Worldwide projects submitted for this prestigious Award.
This year, we will submit again the Francois Leguat project, in which we strongly believe and support. We are confident that good news are awaited at our
next World Congress, which will be held in November 09 in Budapest, Hungary.
Today, you had the opportunity to visit the Reserve of La Vanille and to take stock of their sustained efforts and contribution towards the general
rehabilitation of our Environment at large. We thank our Skalleagues for their leading example in this respect.
Our Skalleagues of la Vanille, on behalf of Skal Mauritius, are delighted to offer each of you an endemic plant for you to bring home and to cherish it.
This action constitutes Skal Mauritius symbolic contribution to celebrate the International Day for the Environment and is in line with our declared
objectives for a Cleaner & Greener Mauritius & Rodrigues Islands.
It is now your individual and collective responsibility to pursue this Green Initiative for a better environment for our kids!
Thank you.
